The atmosphere at Peabody Elementary’s Spelling Bee was much like that of a game show. The participants sat nervously in their seats awaiting the opportunity to spell a word that pronouncer, Dr. Susan Dold would enunciate. Each one having hopes of earning the coveted title: “Champion Speller.”
The audience waited with great anticipation and bated breath as each participant walked to the microphone and listened for their word, only exhaling after each attempt. This ambiance continued until the judges announced Reuben Dailey, a 5th grade student, as the winner.
Rueben has held the title of Champion Speller for the past three years. He will represent Peabody at the final local competition February 1st at the Al Chymia Shrine Center. Cameron Weatherpoon placed second, while Dontavious Siggers placed third. Both are fourth grade students.
We are proud of all student participants!
