The 5th annual Cooper-Young Community Association/Peabody Elementary Chili Cook-Off was a huge success. We had a big crowd, lots of enthusiastic contestants and raised $1,500 for improvements to our playground! That’s even more than was raised at last year’s event.
Mayor AC Wharton, Congressman Steve Cohen, and Shelby County School Board Commissioner Tomeka Hart all attended. Peabody kids even wrote letters to our representatives to advocate for the importance of play in education and enhanced playground facilities.
Here are the results of the contest:
Judges’ Choice – TFA (Teach for America) Chili by Dominique Mendoza and Emily McMillen
People’s Choice – Wendy Sumner-Winter
Best Hot – Glenferno by Glen Thomas
Best Unusual – Textbook Chili by John Shoemaker and Team Whitworth by Jason Whitworth
Many thanks to PTA parents Mandy Grisham and Josh Spickler for organizing the event and the many volunteers who helped make this happen!
Many thanks to our neighborhood partner – The Cooper-Young Community Association.
