Inspire a Young Person – College and Career Day at Peabody Elementary!

No – they’re not ready to declare their majors just yet, but elementary students are old enough to start thinking about the future. Sure, most of them want the glamorous jobs – firefighters, athletes, and actors – but now is the perfect time to expose them to a range of professions!

Some studies show that career development is a lifelong path that begins in elementary school. Here are a few simple tips for presenting to young kids.

We’d like you to share your career with our students, and it will only take you an hour!  Just sign up for a time by clicking our easy SignUp Genius button belowHave a friend or relative with an interesting job? Share this post with them!

One of the last hot days of the summer (we hope) marked the perfect time to look forward to cooler weather and fall veggies!

Students of Peabody Elementary planted the seeds of our Fall Garden.

Emily Holmes, a first grade mom and avid gardener, has led the effort to bring gardening to the school’s backyard.  First grade parent and landscape expert, Kalki Winter also helped coordinate the effort.

On this warm Friday morning, students got their hands good and dirty.

Amazing Peabody teachers Jenifer Eoff and Emily McMillen were also on hand.  So many of our fine teachers moved schedules to make sure kids could participate. So worthwhile.

Growmemphis

Big thanks to GrowMemphis coordinators Chris Peterson and Matt Heim who made this a true community effort.  Please ‘like” GrowMemphis on Facebook – they do wonderful work bringing good, fresh food to every corner of our city.

Volunteers make Peabody shine… even brighter.  Thank you.

Thank You for Being a Friend… of Peabody Elementary!

The first Peabody PTA Volunteer Appreciation Night honored 150 generous family and community members for all that they do for the children of Peabody Elementary!

THANK YOU!

We even had a guest appearance from nationally renowned food revolutionary Tony Geraci, the new director of Nutrician Services for Memphis City Schools!

Geraci visited to acknowledge all of the great things happening at Peabody Elementary.  He has a special interest in us, since he lives in Cooper-Young. That makes Peabody his neighborhood school!

The Christian Brothers University women’s basketball team also came to our volunteer night. These dedicated student-athletes tutor Peabody students weekly in the STAR Tutoring program!
