Inspire a Young Person – College and Career Day at Peabody Elementary!

Cupcake

No – they’re not ready to declare their majors just yet, but elementary students are old enough to start thinking about the future. Sure, most of them want the glamorous jobs – firefighters, athletes, and actors – but now is the perfect time to expose them to a range of professions!

Some studies show that career development is a lifelong path that begins in elementary school. Here are a few simple tips for presenting to young kids.

We’d like you to share your career with our students, and it will only take you an hour!  Just sign up for a time by clicking our easy SignUp Genius button belowHave a friend or relative with an interesting job? Share this post with them!

Room Parents Wanted

Screenshot 2014-09-02 20.46.37One of the best ways we can all help our children … is by helping their teachers!

Consider being a room parent! Your role — be the communication link between your teacher the other parents in your child’s classroom.

Is there a need in your child’s classroom – send an email to help organize class parents.

Is it your teacher’s birthday? Email the parents to get ideas or collect funds.

Holiday party? Help your teacher sign up parents!

More questions? Visit the PTA Handbook here for more guidance.

It’s Peabody Election Day, Too!

We all know August 7th is Election Day in Shelby County … but did you know it’s also the kick-off for the Peabody PTA Elections?!

Screenshot 2014-08-07 11.56.05The nomination process for candidates closed Wednesday at midnight, so the ballot is now set.  Didn’t read up on your candidates?  No problem, because they are all running unopposed:)

Many thanks to all those who have volunteered to serve!

If board service is not for you, there are a host of other ways to be involved in the Peabody PTA. We’ve included some of those on the PTA Board Ballot below! So consider checking a box or two for volunteer opportunities you might find interesting — and someone from the PTA will follow up.

Also, please take time to vote. Even though everyone is unopposed, the votes certify the election process. Plus, it also makes our officers feel really good when more than just a handful of people affirm their volunteerism with a vote!

This poll closes on Thursday, August 14th.

And it’s never been more important than it is today.  The U.S. has fallen behind other countries in areas of math and science during a time when technology and scientific thinking have become vital elements of our economy.

We want you to play a role in encouraging our children to love science.  Please sign up to be a judge for our science fair.  We welcome and encourage anyone who likes to see proud kids make volcanoes explode … to volunteer!
