Half School Day Information

Message from Peabody Principal Nelson:

Shelby County Schools has 8 half days of learning this school year.  Half Days are from 8:15 A.M.-12:15 P.M. Students will be dismissed at 12:15 P.M.

Please communicate the Half Day dismissal time of 12:15 P.M. with your child’s Daycare if they ride a daycare bus.  If they ride SCS school bus, the bus will pick them up from school at 12:15 P.M.  However, parents must be available to receive students at home.  If parents can’t make arrangements to be home by 12:30 P.M. to receive students from the SCS Bus, please sign up for SCS Half Day Care Program.

These are the (8) half days for the 2019-2020 school year:

  • September 20
  • October 11
  • November 8
  • December 20
  • January 17
  • February 14
  • March 13
  • May 22

If parents need Half Day Care, SCS is providing Half Day Care from 12:15 P.M.-3:15 P.M. Parents must sign up by Friday, September 6th via your PowerSchool Parent Portal. Click the tab that says, “Half-Day Program” to sign-up.

If parents sign-up for the Half Day Program, students must be picked up by   3:15 P.M. Parents have to sign up for the program each time there is a half day. SCS will notify you via email if your child was approved to stay for the Half Day Care Program.

If your child is a part of our school’s Y-Care Program with the YMCA, that program will not start until 3:15 P.M. This means that if you plan for your child to stay for the Y-Care which starts at 3:15 P.M., you must register them for the SCS Half Day Care program from 12:15-3:15 P.M. via the PowerSchool Parent Portal. At 3:15 P.M., we will transition your child to Y-Care when their services start.

  • Online application portal opens on the SCS District website at 10: a.m. on February 18
  • Parent’s will log in with child’s name, birth date, current grade/school and social security number or district PIN (Test your log in here)
  • The list of schools with enrollment spaces will be posted online prior to February 18.
  • Applications will be electronically stamped with date and time as they are submitted
  • Students on an existing transfer at SCS school are approved through the exit grade of the current school (No re-apply necessary)

The General Choice Transfer Process is NOT the same as the Optional Schools Process.  Click here to see the difference.
