Peabody Silent Auction Ends Wednesday!

The February snow shut down our annual chili cook-off, but it didn’t stop generous businesses from donating auction items for Peabody Elementary.

Screenshot 2014-02-19 23.32.37Our PTA has decided not to reschedule this year’s chili event.

So we’re doing something a little different —  a SILENT AUCTION on Facebook!

How does it work? Items went up on our Facebook event page Friday, February 21st. In the comment box under each item, you place your bid. Just like in any silent auction, highest bidder wins!

We will close all bidding Wednesday, February 26th at 5pm CST.

What do we have? We have gift certificates and packages from restaurants like Sweet Grass and Central BBQ. You can bid on summer camp and swimming lesson packages.  Plus, gift packages from Harrah’s Casino, Goner Records and Midtown Framers! And more.

What can you do? Share this event with family and friends all over Facebook. Items are from local businesses, so your Memphis area friends will find this auction most valuable!

Here is the Facebook Event Page for the Peabody Elementary Silent Auction!

Thank you for supporting Peabody Elementary in the heart of Midtown Memphis!

Read to Achieve with the Grizzlies!

rta-ip-web-240Starting next week, Peabody’s 3rd, 4th & 5th graders will get the chance to participate in the Grizzlies’ Read to Achieve program! Here’s the deal…

Each student must:

Every 3rd-5th grader who meets these requirements will get to go to the Memphis Grizzlies Read to Achieve Celebration at FedExForum on April 10, featuring Memphis Grizzlies players, team mascot Grizz, Grizz Girls and other special guests! As an added incentive, students who attend the Celebration will receive a free book to help build your personal library.

Your child will be coming home with a Read to Achieve bookmark on which they’ll need to record the names of the books they read. There’s also a place for you to initial, showing that you know they read the book. And, of course, they can take an Accelerated Reader test on their books, which will count toward their AR point goals!

So, come on, Peabody…let’s Read to Achieve!

*In order to count, a book should be at least 30 pages long, or on your child’s reading level, whichever is higher.

And there are no lines to wait in and no paper applications! It’s all online — but it IS first apply, first serve.

  • Online application portal opens on the SCS District website at 10: a.m. on February 18
  • Parent’s will log in with child’s name, birth date, current grade/school and social security number or district PIN (Test your log in here)
  • The list of schools with enrollment spaces will be posted online prior to February 18.
  • Applications will be electronically stamped with date and time as they are submitted
  • Students on an existing transfer at SCS school are approved through the exit grade of the current school (No re-apply necessary)

The General Choice Transfer Process is NOT the same as the Optional Schools Process.  Click here to see the difference.
