Join us for Spruce Up Day at Peabody Elementary!

Join us as we start spring break with service! We need 100 volunteers, including children, to help us spruce up the school campus.

We have a dozen projects: playground spruce, landscape spruce, garden spruce, teacher appreciation gift-making, garden murals, and more! There is something for everyone, so please join us!

This is a project where school families, Peabody staff, and the Cooper-Young neighborhood can come together to make our school and neighborhood more beautiful!

Peabody Elementary Announces May 9th Science Fair!

Peabody Elementary hosted its second STEM night to a packed gymnasium of parents and kids. Peabody dad and software designer at Lokion Interactive, Meka Eguwekwe, hosted the night dedicated to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.

Eguwekwe led an experiment using water, vegetable oil, food coloring, and Alkaseltzer tablets to create a lava lamp!

The school also announced the return of a science fair! The Peabody Elementary Science Fair will be held Thursday May 9th, 2013. PreK – 2nd will work on class projects.  Individuals projects will be for 3rd-5th.

If you want to get the recipe for the lava lamp, learn more about STEM, and find out more about STEM projects happening in Memphis… check out his PowerPoint.

Peabody/Cooper-Young Blood Drive THIS MONDAY!! Sign up today.

Our teachers, students and volunteers were so disappointed when last month’s event was cancelled the day of the drive. The American Red Cross of Memphis upgraded its computer system a few days before the drive; the change created technical problems that shut down operations for the blood drive.

We’ve got it rescheduled!!

The blood drive is this Monday, February 25th from noon-6pm.

Our teachers initially thought of the drive after hearing about blood shortages following Hurrican Sandy.  The natural disaster forced the cancellation of hundreds of blood drives… cutting into the nation’s blood supply.  Since then, communities across the country have set up drives to replenish the supply.

It’s a reminder that our nation is always in need of blood both before and after emergencies.

That’s why Peabody Elementary faculty and staff are calling on our school and our neighborhood to give the gift of blood this new year.

Here is the link to sign up!  Just sign up for the Peabody drive.

Many thanks to Peabody’s Ms. McMillen and Ms. Eoff for coordinating this effort… twice!
