Lend Your Voice!

Megaphone
As you know, the Memphis and Shelby County School districs are in the process of consolidating into one large district. The many people on the new Unified School Board and the Transition Team, as well as hired consultants, are hard at work on making plans for what this new school system will look like and how it will operate.

The Peabody PTA’s Academic Innovation and Advocacy Team will be hosting a meeting in the Peabody library on Thursday, January 12, at 6:00 p.m. to discuss some “big picture” issues that we would like to advocate for during the consolidation process. Some of the issues we will likely discuss and put into the document we deliver to these groups include:

  • Length of the school day/year
  • Curriculum
  • Policies affecting students’ health and wellness

Mark Sturgis, Executive Director of the Memphis chapter of Stand for Children, will be present to help guide us in our advocacy work on behalf of Peabody’s students. If you have specific topics that you would like to add to the agenda for discussion on January 12th, please email them to Ginger Spickler, chair of the Advocacy team, at gingerspickler@gmail.com or call her at (901) 216-2162. We look forward to seeing many members of the Peabody community on the 12th!
